The Rev. Frederick “Rick” Buechner

The Rev. Frederick A. Buechner hails from St. Louis, MO. Born in 1952, his family moved to Savannah in 1964 at age 12. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a BA in US History in 1974. After a brief stint in banking and insurance, he entered the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, matriculating in 1980 and ordained to the Priesthood on January 27, 1981.

Prior to being called as Rector of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Thomasville in 1988 where he served for 24 years, he had been the Curate at Christ Church, Frederica St. Simons Island and St. John’s Savannah, and Rector of Christ Church, Dublin, Ga.

Since 2013, Fr. Buechner has served as Interim Rector at Calvary Episcopal Church, Americus, GA, and St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bainbridge GA. In 2016 he spent six months as Locum Chaplain at St. George’s Anglican Church, Venice, Italy. He has had the pleasure of regularly supplying for St. Thomas ever since his arrival in our city.

His wife Kathy, a native of Savannah, graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, and has taught in the Chatham County, Laurens County, and Thomas County systems, as well as having taught at our own St. Thomas Day School. Their grown children Will and Caroline are alumni of our Day School.

In his spare time, Rick enjoys, golf, reading, biking, listening to music, and obeying every word from the mouth of his German Short-hair Pointer Greta.
